DJ Charlesy hit the limelight when he was first signed by Tinie Tempah as his official tour DJ back in 2010, playing large stadium gigs in the UK and internationally. Since then, he’s recently toured with Bugzy Malone and has gone on to become the resident DJ and curator of the Disturbing Ibiza parties, before expanding into the Dubai club scene.
After watching his older brother DJ throughout his childhood, DJ Charlesy’s insatiable passion for music developed into a dedicated interest in the technical side of the industry and he absorbed everything he learned in order to make it his own. The club nights he set up attracted an overwhelming amount of attention and the events’ success drove him to seek out an even bigger challenge. From there, he began to define his own style and was able to build on an already impressive reputation, which opened doors to an exciting and brand new scene.
During a previous tour with N-Dubz, Charlesy was asked to fill in for Tinie Tempah’s then DJ, who had failed to turn up, and whipped the crowd into such a frenzy with his musical prowess that he was snapped up by the ‘Frisky’ superstar’s team on a permanent basis. His confidence and sheer talent were undeniable and led him to sign a lucrative management deal with Tinie’s label, Disturbing London Records.
He spent most of 2012 abroad, performing DJ sets and hosting exclusive after parties in exotic locations, and has now returned to the UK where he is preparing to head out on Tinie Tempah’s 2014 arena tour in support of the rapper’s new studio album, ‘Demonstration’. Crediting his upbringing and experiences as a DJ on the road with the intricate knowledge he has of the industry, Charlesy explains that he is much more heavily involved with the tour this time around and has been working on production as well as figuring out the live band’s set-up.
Earlier this year, he was invited to showcase his appetite for music in its different capacities by DJing at London’s Wireless festival between the main stage’s internationally renowned live acts. Charlesy’s unique style and command over his audience didn’t go unnoticed and he was then asked to host the festival’s official after parties, which were attended by the likes of Trey Songz and ‘Can’t Say No’ hitmaker Conor Maynard. Rap heavyweight Snoop Dogg and Big Sean also showed their support and respect for him by turning up to perform.
Charlesy has now secured himself a regular radio show on Capital & Capital Xtra, which airs every Friday night from 10pm, and his innate ability to seamlessly fuse eclectic tracks together along with his appreciation for such diverse genres was rewarded with complete creative control over the shows he broadcasts.
Along with his direct involvement in music as a DJ, Charlesy decided to incorporate another creative outlet into his ever-growing career and recently launched an online webzine, entitled LoveThat Mag. The site only officially launched in September, but it has quickly enjoyed extensive exposure and the interviews it boasts as well as engaging articles about fashion, music, and entertainment make for a promising project. Despite having such a varied and intense workload, Charlesy’s passion for DJing hasn’t once faltered and he still releases intoxicating new sets every fortnight via his SoundCloud page.
Since joining the Disturbing London family, Charlesy has added to his dedicated fan base by gaining new followers around the globe with every show he does. His natural aptitude for music coupled with his ambition and limitless energy has propelled him into the spotlight where his future is only set to get brighter.
